Golden Globes '11

Note to Readers:
You all know how much I love red-carpet fashion. It is fun to imagine what it would be like if you were able to choose a gown from a top designer. I wonder what I would pick. I get excited to pick out an outfit for going on a date with Ben, so I can't even imagine how excited I would be to choose a gown from a designer to walk the red carpet! I'll share with you some of my favorites and least favorites from the night. (Keep in mind I haven't actually watched the ceremony, just looked at the photos)


Note to Anne Hathaway:
I'm going to be honest with you, sometimes I do not understand your style. However... tonight I am obsessed with it!!! In my mind I like to think that Stanley Tucci picked out this Armani Prive number for you, out of the magazine fashion closet in The Devil Wears Prada. This gown is a stunning color, it has a great shape, and I love the long sleeves. I love everything about it.

Note to Claire Danes:

I almost always love your style. This Calvin Klein halter dress really showcases your pretty shoulders and teeny waist. Let's be real for a second, I can't get over your petite frame and scuplted shoulders. I haven't event noticed the dress, color, silhouette etc., I am just dying over your pretty figure. Way to flaunt what you've got in a subtle manor. (Are you taking notes Katy Perry?)

Note to Megan Fox:

If I were you I would probably just wear a bikini everywhere. If I had to put a dress on though, this Armani Prive is a good choice. I like the texture and construction of the bodice paired with the un-complicated skirt. Very pretty, very classic, and very well done.

Note to Angelina Jolie:

Have you been reading Fashion Noted? Thank you for wearing a color other than black! This Versace gown is gorgeous. I love that so many celebrities embraced something other than strapless gowns. I hear I need to see The Tourist for our wardrobe alone, and I think I may have to do just that.

Note to Emma Stone:

This is hard for me because I love you. Seriously, I watched Easy A on my flight to Hawaii and then I watched it again on the way back. So please keep in mind, this is hard for me to write. This Calvin Klein dress is definitely not your best look. The dress is not supposed to match your bronzer. If it were in another color I think it could be a really nice minimalistic look on you, but the color is all wrong. Don't hate me?

Note to Halle Berry:

We get it. You are pretty, you have a great body, beautiful skin, don't even need hair to look pretty. I know you don't need an amazing dress to look amazing, but this look is putting me to sleep. Did you get it out of Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie's closet? Sorry, that was kind of mean. I would still die to look like you, but I have seen you in some gorgeous gowns and this one is a little bit of a snoozer.

Loving Lea

Note to Lea Michele:

I absolutely love your gown for last night's Tony Awards. That Zac Posen really knows how to make a dress. The seams on the bodice are gorgeous, and don't get me started on how much I love the color! It reminds me a lot of this stunning look. I like that you kept your hair and accessories simple, so they didn't compete with your gown. You remind me of Sandra Bullock in this photo, and that is a good thing. Also, I like the new bangs. Nicely done.

Note to Readers:

As you could tell by my gushing above, I liked a lot of things about this look. The most important thing, when you are wearing a bold color is to make sure the color looks good on you. Sometimes I will love an item of clothing because of a standout color, but when I try it on, the color just doesn't work with my skin tone. Just because you like something on the hanger, does not necessarily mean you should get it.

I highly recommend trying on new colors, because sometimes colors you don't think will work on you will, and vice-versa.

Also, I haven't watched Glee, but it seems like people love it. Do you think I should get into it?

Note to Gwyneth Paltrow:

Wow. I'm pretty speechless right now. This Elie Saab dress you wore to the Laureus World Sports awards was beyond gorgeous. Everything from the color, to the beaded details, to your glowing skin, and loose curls created an ethereal head-to-toe look that I am obsessed with! Well done, GP.

Note to Readers:

I love looking at red carpet looks, but I don't really have the invitations or resources to utilize these kinds of looks. They are just fun to look at. I love to think about what I would wear, (including jewelry and shoes) if I were to attend one of these events. What would you want to wear?

Note to Sandra Bullock:

I am so excited for your big Academy Award win! You looked gorgeous. I loved your gold Marchesa dress and your pretty pink lips. It was a beautiful look, and I like that you still looked like you. Sometimes people go a little overboard on the hair and makeup and are unrecognizable. I'm glad you didn't fall into that trap.

Also, I loved your speech. It was equal parts funny and touching and it showed what a classy woman you are. Congrats.

It is probably no surprise that I love the red carpet more than I like the actual awards ceremony. Who do you think were the best and worst dressed?

Golden Globes '10: TMI

Note to Olivia Wilde:
Your dress was a little revealing. Not nearly as bad as some offenders on the Red Carpet. I guess I just expect more from you after your stunning appearance here. Your Gucci gown was not a bad choice, it just was not your best choice either. You don't need a plunging neckline to turn heads. Your beauty does that on its own.

Note to Halle Berry:
You are hot. Your are not aging at all. Your are gorgeous. Your body is amazing. We get it. A backless dress with a plunging neckline is kind of overkill. I would have LOVED this dress if the back was kept the same and the front was more demure. I love backless dresses, but your backless and partially frontless dress by Kaufman Franco was a bit much.


Note to Mariah Carey:
Why am I not surprised to see you dressed like this? Have you not read ANY of my posts about your clothing? (please review them here and here) I know it was the Golden Globes, but you took that too literally when it came to your gown selection. I guess somethings never change.

Note to Readers:

I think you get what I am saying in this post. Sometimes it is more sexy to leave something to the imagination. Do you agree?

Golden Globes '10: Half-Right

Note to Sandra Bullock:
Congrats on your big Golden Globe win! It must feel nice to finally get some awards-show love after all of these years. I loved you in The Blindside, and I loved your southern wife wardrobe in the movie as well. I don't know if I could ever pull off such a polished and preppy look, but it looked fabulous on you.

Now on to your Golden Globes gown... there are a few things I loved. I love this color on you. Purple is a great color on brunettes with dark eyes. I also love the construction of the fitted bodice. Bottega Veneta's creation treated your top half well. My problem comes in on the skirt. The iridescent fabric with the pinkish underskirt, reminds me too much of a prom dress or a little girl's princess dress up gown. That was hard for me to say, because I really like you. Despite my opinions of fabric choice, you truly looked beautiful.

Note to Readers:
What did you think of this dress? Maybe I am being too picky about the fabric, but I was just giving my honest opinion.

Golden Globes '10: Pretty in Pink

Note to Readers:

Happy Awards Season! You know I love seeing what is worn on the Red Carpet. I am pretty sleepy right now, but I had to put in my two cents about a couple of the Golden Globe looks before my head hits the pillow. After looking through the photos, I have so much to say, so I am breaking it up into a few different categories. Let's start with one of the most prevalent colors on the runway... shades of pink.

Note to Emily Blunt:

This shade of pink is perfect with your dark hair and light eyes. Dolce & Gabbana did an excellent job with this tulle and chiffon creation. Maybe you should consider being unconventional and wearing a pink-hued wedding dress? The silhouette and construction of the bodice is perfection, and I love the ethereal effect of the fabric on the skirt. You may not have won tonight, but you were definitely a winner on the red carpet.

Note to Diane Kruger:
Way to stand out! This is a brighter and more heightened hue of pink than a lot of women wore to the awards ceremony tonight, and I like it. This Christian Lacroix gown is unique, but not so different that you look like you are some kind of science project (a la Bjork's swan dress). You are not a stranger to making daring fashion choices, and I appreciate it. I know that you won't be boring us with a string of black dresses, so again, thank you.


Note to Nicole Kidman:
Your peachy/pink Nina Ricci gown leaves me a bit confused. I like parts of it. The color is pretty on your alabaster skin. I like the asymmetrical sleeve embellishments. It looks like there are satin covered buttons on the side, which are a nice touch. I even like the draping and the bows. The problem is I just don't like them all together. Where was Tim Gunn with his editing eye when you needed him? Also, I can't decide how I feel about the fabric. Is it pretty and elegant or is it too much like a prom or bridesmaid dress nightmare?

Note to Rachel McAdams:

You WORKED it on the red carpet for the German premiere of Sherlock Holmes. This Alberta Feretti one-sleeved creation is gorgeous. I love the texture of the crinkled fabric and the color is so pretty with your complexion. I'm not going to lie to you, I wasn't in love with your Vogue cover (I think it was the hair)... but now you are back on top!!!

Note to Readers:

What I love about this dress is its subtlety. The color is a subtle change from what you normally see on red carpets. The fabric is slightly different than a standard silk chiffon, because of the crinkled finish. The one shoulder is a design element different than many gowns, but not so different that it is the only thing you notice about the dress.

Sometimes we don't need to make overt and in-your-face fashion statements to stand out.

Red Haute!

Note to Penelope Cruz:

Despite the cold winter weather, you were sizzling at the Nine premiere. The color of this Chanel dress is so captivating, it is hard to notice the gorgeous draping. I can not get over how stunning this color is. Well done Penelope. Also I can't wait to see the movie (much to my boyfriend's dismay).

Note to Readers:

Is it just me or is this color to die for? Maybe I am going out on a limb here, but I think that us mere mortals could also be head-turning show-stoppers in this dress. Not to say that Penelope isn't wearing this dress well, but imagine showing up to a formal Christmas party in this number. I think I will dream of this exact scenario tonight.

Have fun with your holiday wardrobe. This goes to show a little color and glamour go a LONG way.

Oscar Report: Natalie Portman

Note to Natalie Portman:

You were, in my opinion the best dressed on Oscar night. I love everything about this pleated Rodarte gown. I love the way the bodice is constructed with a bit of shimmer peeking through the beautifully draped fabric. The color is unique, and not one you see in formal wear very often. I am surprised I like the color, pink usually makes me think of princess-like prom dresses, but I like this hue of pink in this particular gown. You have a petite frame, but this dress does not overwhelm you. You wore subtle diamond accessories, that work very well with your look. I saw you at a concert in LA last summer, and was amazed at how beautiful you are in person. I can only imagine how amazing this dress looked on you in real life. 

Oscar Report: Tina Fey

Note to Tina:

Your Academy Awards ensemble was my second favorite of the night. This platinum Zac Posen is exquisite on you. The slight chevron effect of the bodice looks great on your figure, and I love the design, cut and shape of the gown. Zac has always been a master of creating gowns that flatter a woman's figure, and this gown is no exception. Your hair, makeup and accessories complement your gown well. At the Emmy's I named you a sly fox, but now Ms. Fey you are a full-fledged fashionista! So you are pretty, look great in a gown, and you are beyond funny. Man, some girls get all the luck. 

Oscar Report: Taraji P. Henson

Note to Taraji:

I absolutely love your entire Oscar look. This Roberto Cavalli gown, is a gorgeous color on you. The design of the dress is fabulous, I love the tiered fabric and the fit is wonderful. I loved you in Benjamin Button, but I think I may love you more on the red carpet. My only qualm, and it is a small one, maybe you could have done something with your hair? I would have loved to see it in a low updo or with a few pieces pulled back with some fabulous vintage jewled hair pins. Overall, I loved your look, and I am anxiously awaiting to see what your next red carpet appearance brings.

Oscar Report: Freida Pinto

Note to Freida Pinto:

I have heard a few opinions about your John Galliano gown, and most of them are positive. When I first saw your Academy Awards look, I thought the color was a little bit boring and the one sheer sleeve looked a little bit like a figure skating costume. HOWEVER, when I looked at it a little more, the cobalt color is a more sophisticated hue than some of the brighter colors you have recently been wearing, which shows some versatility. I also appreciate the asymmetrical neckline, and the one sleeve is growing on me. It looks almost like a glammed up sari. You are kind of like Angelina Jolie, you would look good in almost anything.

Oscar Report: Anne Hathaway

Note to Anne Hathaway:

You were definitely feeling the Oscar spirit when you selected this Armani Prive gown. You remind me of the statuette itself, only much more beautiful. Your look evokes an Audrey Hepburn-like glamour. I think this is a sophisticated look, and the fit of the dress highlights your figure. I love the dress, love the hair, love the lipstick, basically I love everything. You may not have left the night with an Oscar, but you definitely were a winner.

Oscar Report: Marissa Tomei

Note to Marissa Tomei:

Wow. You looked stunning at Sunday's award ceremony. This Versace gown looked like it was made just for you, and maybe it was. The fit of the dress is amazing on you, and compliments your fabulous figure. I have read a few complaints about the train being too fussy, but I personally love it. It brings in the trend of architectural and geometric shapes, without you looking like a piece of origami. Honestly, I love your entire look, you were one of my favorites from the night.

Oscar Report: Reese Witherspoon

Note to Reese:

There is a lot of chatter going on about your Academy Award dress selection.  Some loved it, some absolutely hated it. My opinion of your Rodarte frock? I love the vibrant colors, they are sophisticated yet egdy and playful at the same time.  The ombre effect of the fabric is also very fashion forward. I wish I could see the dress in person, maybe it would help me grasp the draping and layers more. 

I do not understand the random sheer parts near the armpit, it looked like you were wearing a bra with the translucent straps. (Which by the way ladies, just because the bra straps are clear does not mean we can not see them, please wear a strapless bra when necessary) I think the shape of this dress does not do much for your frame. It does not necessarily look bad on you, but it does not have the wow factor that some of the dresses (ie. Yellow Nina Ricci dress) you have worn have on you.

I hope you all enjoyed watching the Oscars as much as I did.  I decided instead of rushing to write reviews on all the looks last night, I am going to post a few looks a day this week.  At the end of the week I will post my favorite Oscar look.

Oscar Report: Beyonce

Note to Beyonce:

It's time to have another talk. This dress looks like a gaudy tapestry you would see hanging in Trump Tower. I know that was harsh, and I am feeling a little bad about picking on you, but I have decided it is time for some tough love. Stop dressing in your mom's House of Dereon collection, the designs are not polished enough for the Red Carpet.  I am not going to go into detail about how the design of the dress does nothing for your figure. I don't like any of it. Please, hire a stylist you are not related to.

Oscar Report: Angelina Jolie

Note to Angelina Jolie:

Lets be honest, you are so beautiful it is hard for you to make a misstep. This Elie Saab gown is a more fitted silhouette than the blouson look you have been favoring lately. The bodice is interesting, without looking too fussy. I love the emerald jewelry you chose to accessorize with, they provided a nice flash of color. Your date was pretty easy on the eyes too. My only complaint, albeit a minor one is this look is a little safe for me. Black strapless dresses can be a bit yawn inducing. Although you make it look so good, maybe you are exempt from this clause?

Oscar Report: Jessica Biel

Note to Jessica Biel:

I can say that the color of your dress looks nice on you, and your makeup and accessories are well selected.  That is pretty much all of the positive I can draw from your look. Your Prada Gown had potential, except the few yards of fabric tucked into the top of your dress and then tucked it in at the waist.  Seriously though, you thought this looked good or flattering? C'mon your boyfriend has a clothing line, you couldn't have asked him for advice? I understand trying to use a big name brand, and trying to be fashion forward, but this is not the right way to do it.
